Saying prayers & praying
There is a vast difference between saying prayers and praying. Prayers could be said without meaning...e.g. 'saying' the Lord's prayer because you know every word of it but not meaning/ understanding anything or connecting with God while praying...plus not backing it with faith.
I don't think there's anything wrong with 'reading out' prayers sometimes, especially if that is done with meaning and faith. Sometimes prayers are written and read by liturgists to 'remind' them of a particular theme of focus, or to keep the congregation within a 'stipulated time frame'. e.g. when a service is being aired live, people may want to 'read out' a prayer so that they're kept in check with their wording and timing...but that doesn't mean it's without meaning or faith. Most importantly in every case however, we need to pray with meaning and not just 'say' words.
