There was nothing love-ly about this particular night. Death stared Him in the face; His close buddy would deny he ever knew Him; another friend would betray Him and give Him up for thirty pieces of silver coins; His ‘inner circle’ of followers would not be able to watch with Him in prayer for an hour…Yet it was on this night that He chose to have dinner with His flawed friends …it was on this same night that He selflessly washed the feet of those who would hurt Him…this night, He would pray passionately for His present and future disciples…on the most unlikeliest of nights, He says ‘This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and His people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many’.
When all around Him was denial and betrayal, Love chose to love till the end…When death thought it would end the story, Love knew death would be swallowed up in victory…Being betrayed by a friend, Love knew He would provide comfort for all who go through betrayal…Love looked beyond His close buddy’s denial, and Love said “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Tonight, I invite you to meet my friend Love. Love says ‘come let us reason together…though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow’. Love beckons all to a loving relationship. Love knows all about us and still pursues us. Love knows we sometimes deny and betray Him but lives to make intercession for us. Love understands all we go through and longs to wrap us in His arms and be a Father to us. My friend Love is JESUS! Come meet Love! Oh, how He loves us with such an amazing Love! Behold He stands at the door and knocks; Oh, that we would let Love in and let Him be everything to us!
